Daylight Saving Time is set to begin this Sunday, March 8 at 2 a.m., local time. Standard time is moved forward an hour, effectively moving an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening and gives residents an extra hour sunlight – when it shines – after work. Clocks are set to change back Sunday, November 1. The exact dates of the time change are subject to the vagaries of the calendar and sometimes politics. In 2007 the start and end dates were changed to study the effects of Daylight Saving on energy consumption. Daylight saving began on the first Sunday in April from 1987 through 2006 and US Congress can change the dates back after the study is done.
