Kamiakin Middle School’s final concert took place on June 3, providing the perfect send-off for this year’s eighth grade Wind Ensemble. The group will begin high school in September.
The band’s final selection, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” featured six Kamiakin graduates on drum sets and the school’s registrar, vocalist Micki Skutvik.
This year’s quarterly certificates went to Evelyn Locker, bassoon; Julia Ryan, trumpet; Henry Stirrat, percussion; Anna Whiteside, flute; Thomas Riffle, percussion; Jadyn Muralt, french horn; Aleksandr Nosyrev, bass; Linda Jung, french horn; Natasha Lavides, flute; Donna Albee, bassoon; Samantha Green, flute; Rand Carter, french horn; Jonah Kern, trumpet; Grace Burt, saxophone; Tom Balback, trombone; Annika Hansson, saxophone.
Band Member of the Year went to Nicole Birova, sixth grade; Jonah Kern, seventh grade; Izzy Duffield, eighth grade; Colleen O’Neil, Jazz.
The band program’s highest honor, the Director’s Award, was given to Tali Izhaky, clarinet/flute/sax; Crystal Canales, flute/piano.
This year’s Peter Riffe Memorial Scholarship was awarded to sixth grader Olivia Harless, tuba.
The outstanding elementary musicians were fourth-grade trombonist Maya Elzein and fifth-grade flutist Makenzie Burke.
