Kamiakin’s Music Program recently set a record that will be hard to break for future musicians. After preparing them over summer vacation, students from the Music Department’s band and orchestra recorded and submitted pre-determined excerpts to the Washington Music Educators Association to be screened by professional musicians. Of those screened across the entire state, 15 Kamiakin students were accepted – the school’s highest number ever.

The students will rehearse and perform in Yakima on Saturday, March 13 in conjunction with the WMEA’s annual conference. Those accepted to the Jr. All-State Band and Orchestra are: Chloe O’Neill, clarinet; Naomi Vlasin, clarinet; Stella Perlic, percussion; Gloria Liu, clarinet; Elena Plenefisch, clarinet; Jacob Reyes, trombone; Hannah Miller, trombone; Logan Heine, tenor saxophone; Katie Crowe, flute; Gabbie Hsu, bassoon; Ben Ellis, trumpet; Julian Pellerin, trumpet; Mallika Iyer, viola; Chris Potter, string bass. Tim Roetcisoender, a freshman clarinetist, made it into the high school All-State Band as well and will perform later that weekend.
