King County Executive Dow Constantine and the County’s “Easy Being Green” campaign want residents to know that being green is as easy as one simple action, and that every earth-friendly deed leads to a more-sustainable community.

King County is helping residents take up more green lifestyle habits through its Easy Being Green campaign, which provides useful tips on things like decreasing food waste, making greener consumer choices, or finding local bicycle routes.

The Easy Being Green website also provides information on how people can sign up for local activities that improve the health of our environment, including volunteer opportunities to restore natural habitats and plant trees.

King County last week launched the “One Million Trees” campaign, with a goal of planting one million trees across the county by 2020. Healthy forests and trees store carbon and contribute to clean air and water, healthy habitat for salmon and other wildlife, and more livable communities. One Million Trees is part of a King County’s ambitious five-year action plan to reduce carbon pollution and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Celebrate Earth Day by visiting the County’s “Easy Being Green” website at kingcounty.gov/beinggreen. There, you can also see Executive Constantine’s Earth Day proclamation and find a list of Earth Week activities happening around the county.
