The Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce will host a panel during its membership luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 10, which will focus on “Kirkland Vision 2035 – Moving Sustainably into the Future.”

The city of Kirkland has many great resources and is growing into a world-class urban city where people want to live, work and play. With this popularity and growth come significant growing pains; many fear that the character of the city could become lost as city officials try to maintain balance and deal with the added growth and its challenges.

One of the biggest is mobility and accommodating the increase in traffic. Another is the underutilized, yet traffic-snarled, Totem Lake area. At the same time, Kirkland just began to remove the rails from the 5-plus miles of railway that it purchased as a start to phase one of a cross city trail system.

The panel of visionaries  – including City Manager Kurt Triplett, Guy Michaelson with Berger Partnership and Bruce Haldors, CEO of Transpo Group – will explore these issues and share their perspectives on how some of Kirkland’s biggest challenges may also provide opportunities to strengthen the economic vitality and livability of Kirkland.

Attendees will also get an update on the comprehensive planning effort, Kirkland 2035, and how the business community can contribute.

Brenda Nunes, a managing broker and realtor at Keller Williams Eastside, will moderate the panel discussion.

The luncheon will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Woodmark Hotel, 1200 Carillon Point in Kirkland. The cost is $30 to attend.
