Kirkland Co-operative Preschool will celebrate Pam Fenton tomorrow, Feb. 21, who retired this fall after 27 years of teaching at the preschool. The retirement party will be held at Lake Washington Methodist Church from 6-8:30 p.m.
Fenton began her journey at Kirkland Co-operative Preschool with her own sons, Nick and Noah. After being a part of the co-op for four years, she became a teacher at the preschool in 1986.
She has taught many kids in the Kirkland community and received her degree in elementary education from Montana State University.
“Kirkland Co-op has been part of our family for many years,” said Fenton. “I first joined as a parent because I felt it was the best place for my son. I didn’t realize how much I would get out of it as a parent and a person. When my second son was ready for preschool, there was no question that he would be a co-op kid.”
Kirkland Co-op Preschool is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the benefit of preschool children and families in and around Kirkland. The preschool started in a chicken coop on Finn Hill over 60 years ago and has since grown to include three classrooms, a playground and three different age-based classes. The preschool has been co-located with Lake Washington United Methodist Church for many years, but the preschool has no religious affiliation.
