Kirkland City Council member Shelley Kloba recently received a Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) for completing over 30 hours of training credits. The CML program is designed to enhance the ability of elected municipal officials by providing knowledge and skills to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds, and foster community and staff relationships. To earn this certificate, the official attends a variety of AWC sponsored municipal workshops. The course helps the mayors and councilmembers learn the essentials of municipal service and improve their ability to work with council colleagues, city staff, and citizens.

Council Member Kloba was appointed to her first term on the Kirkland City Council in March 2013 (Position No. 2) when it was vacated and was elected in November 2013 to serve the remainder of the vacated term. She is a member of the Disability Board, City/School District Coordinating Committee, and Chair of the Public Works, Parks and Human Services Committee. She currently serves on regional boards including the Eastside Human Services Forum, King County Solid Waste Advisory Committee, and Sound Cities Association Domestic Violence Initiative and Public Issues Committee (Alternate). She currently resides in the Juanita Neighborhood.
