The sport of lacrosse is growing at an exponential rate in Kirkland. The local high school club team was forced to split into two teams during the fall because of the demand from prep athletes to play. But evidently the city has the talent, along with the numbers.
The Lake Washington and Juanita high school club teams will face off Sunday for the Division II state title at 5 p.m. at the StarFire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
Juanita punched its ticket to the title game by knocking off Overlake 12-10 during the state semifinal game on Wednesday in Redmond.
Juanita is led by first-team KingCo All-Conference selections senior attackman Jason McLean and junior midfielder Connor Campbell. Campbell is the No. 5 scorer in the state with 53 goals and eight assists for 61 points.
The Kangs are led by All-Conference first-team senior defender Spencer Mueller, a two-time honoree.
