The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between April 18-24, the Kirkland Police Department reported 392 traffic violations, five DUIs, 15 school zone traffic violations, 30 traffic accidents, three animal calls, 36 alarm calls, 12 noise complaints, eight calls of disturbance, 17 thefts, 16 car prowls, four car thefts, 21 calls of civil disturbance, five reported burglaries, 13 domestic violence calls, nine calls for harassment, six reports of illegal drugs, two alleged assaults, 14 acts of fraud, eight malicious mischief calls, two sex offenses, two juvenile crimes, two robberies and three suicide calls. At least 39 people were arrested.
April 24
Warrant: 6:16 a.m., 11900 block of NE 124th St. A 29-year-old man was arrested on his outstanding warrant for violating a no contact order. Police found him pacing back and forth on an I-405 overpass. Police took the man’s marijuana bong and 8.98 grams of marijuana for safekeeping.
April 23
Domestic violence: 4 a.m., 12700 block of NE 129th Court. A 28-year-old man was arrested for pushing his 24-year-old girlfriend to the ground, causing pain to her right knee. The two were arguing about their relationship and the man’s unwillingness to return her personal belongings.
April 22
Warrant: 2:15 p.m., 12000 block of 98th Ave. NE. A 19-year-old woman was arrested on a Yakima misdemeanor warrant.
Domestic violence: 3 p.m., 12200 block of NE 147th Place. An 18-year-old man was arrested for twisting his girlfriend’s arm. She tried to call police when her boyfriend wouldn’t get out of her car. The two were in a “heated debate” over racism in America. After he twisted her arm, she bit him and told him to get off. The man later admitted to the altercation.
Assault: 8:36 a.m., 10800 block of 120th Ave. NE. A 41-year-old man was taken into custody for assaulting his 37-year-old male co-worker following several days of arguments leading up to the altercation.
April 21
Domestic violence: 3 p.m., 11000 block of NE 124th Lane. A 30-year-old woman was arrested for jumping on her 20-year-old wife during an argument inside a vehicle, grabbing her face and left arm and shaking her back and forth.
April 20
DUI: 12:50 a.m., 100 block of Central Way. A 24-year-old man was arrested after he nearly collided head on with an officer and ran a stop sign near Lakeshore Plaza. After the officer pulled him over, he stated “Officer, I’m very intoxicated.” However, he refused field sobriety tests, a preliminary breath test and a blood alcohol content test.
Assault: 8:21 a.m., 11800 block of NE 85th St. A 56-year-old homeless man was taken into custody for acting aggressive toward officers when they tried to remove him from McDonalds. Police were there to issue the man a trespass letter because he was acting belligerently. But when they arrived he refused to remove his hand from inside his coat and tried to flee. He resisted when officers tried to gain control and pushed an officer towards traffic on a busy street. He was taken to the ground, during which he bit the same officer.
Traffic offense: 5:35 p.m., 8400 block of 122nd Ave. NE. A 42-year-old man was cited for driving while his license was suspended. His ex-wife had reported he was intoxicated during their custody exchange. When police contacted him, he was not intoxicated but they found him driving with a suspended license status.
Malicious mischief: 7:57 p.m., 12000 block of 131st Lane NE. A 31-year-old woman was arrested for slashing a 34-year-old man’s tires after he requested she leave his apartment because she was too intoxicated. The two allegedly celebrated Easter together by drinking heavily and doing drugs. The woman later refused to go but the man eventually was able to get her to leave. After she slashed his tires, he came out to check the damage and she began waving the knife at him. The woman also had a theft warrant from Renton.
April 19
Trespass: 10:44 p.m., 11700 block of NE 137th St. A woman called police to report two teenagers smoking at a closed park. When police arrived, the teens were gone. The woman told police there has been an increase in minor graffiti at the park and that she plans to upgrade the security cameras soon.
Warrant: 8:35 p.m., 12500 block of 116th Ave. NE. A 20-year-old man was arrested on a warrant. Police discovered him after McDonalds’ employees reported him as an “unwanted subject.”
Assault: 2:20 p.m., 12000 block of NE 128th St. A 22-year-old man was arrested on charges from an incident at Motel 6. Police were originally called to EvergreenHealth Medical Center because the man had assaulted his 35-year-old nurse while she was assisting him. But she did not wish to pursue charges at that time.
April 18
Warrant: 1:35 p.m., 10300 block of 111th Ave. NE. A 28-year-old man was taken into custody on a $10,000 DUI Seattle municipal warrant. Police contacted him during an alarm call.
Domestic violence: 6:26 p.m., 8400 block of NE 145th St. An 18-year-old man was arrested for punching his 53-year-old father in the face and causing multiple injuries.
Illegal drugs: 11:18 p.m., 12400 block of NE 60th St. Two 16-year-old boys were arrested for possessing liquor and marijuana. Police found the boys with two 14-year-old girls, one 15-year-old girl and one 15-year-old boy loitering in the parking lot of Benjamin Franklin Elementary school after hours. Police took their Skyy Wild Strawberry Vodka and marijuana as evidence.
