Kirkland Mayor Amy Walen has been unanimously elected to serve as the Treasurer of the Sound City Association (SCA). She is one of five members of the SCA Executive Committee. SCA represents 36 cities in King County and provides a regional voice for nearly one million people. The association provides a voice for King County cities through leadership in areas such as economic and community development, transportation, land use, health, government operations, the environment, education, public safety, social welfare and other public policy issues.

Walen began her first term on the Kirkland City Council in January 2010 and was re-elected in November 2013. She was selected by her fellow councilmembers to serve as mayor for a two-year term beginning January 2014 and again in January 2016. She currently serves on the City Council’s Finance and Administration Committee and Legislative Committee. Her regional representation includes the Eastside Rail Corridor (ERC) Committee, Sound Cities Association (SCA) Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) Executive Board, PSRC Transportation Policy Board, Economic Development Council, and Regional Policy Committee. She has helped organizations such as Hopelink, Evergreen Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees and Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing. In 2013, the Alliance of Eastside Agencies, a professional membership organization of human service providers, honored Amy Walen as the Elected Official of the Year. In June of 2015, Association of Washington Cities (AWC) presented Walen with the Advocacy All-Star Award, celebrating her actions in advocating for Kirkland and cities around the state.

“I continue to seek opportunities to further raise Kirkland’s profile in local, regional and statewide initiatives such as transportation infrastructure and strategic economic development,” Walen said. “My involvement with SCA helps me to better serve Kirkland.”

SCA, which was formerly known as the Suburban Cities Association, was established more than 40 years ago to help King County cities act locally and partner regionally to create vital and thriving communities through advocacy, education, leadership, mutual support and networking.
