The 14th annual Kirkland Polar Bear Plunge will return to Marina Park at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
The event has remained a community staple, even after official city involvement ended in 2009 due to budget cuts. Those who plan to attend do so at their own risk.
Tomorrow’s Kirkland forecast, according to the National Weather Service, will reach a high of 40 degrees.
Last year’s water temperature was a paltry 45 degrees, though this year’s plunge comes after consecutive nights where the air temperature dropped into the low 30s and high 20s.
A costume contest will be held at 12:55 p.m.
