The weekly Kirkland Police blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between July 22-28, the Kirkland Police Department reported 285 traffic violations (six DUIs), 19 thefts, 14 animal control calls, 11 domestic violence calls, seven hit and runs, five burglaries, four motor vehicle prowls and two robberies. At least 33 people were arrested.
July 28
Hit and run: 11:27 a.m., 100 block of 120th Ave. N.E. Another vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle while victim was parked at the Wireless Data Services building. On-site security was able to get the plate of the suspect’s vehicle, who works at the business. The suspect admitted to security that she did hit the vehicle and wanted to keep it a civil issue. Police advised the suspect on a better way of handling incidents like this in the future.
Burglary: Unknown time, 4300 block of Lake Washington Blvd. N.E. Someone broke into a storage unit and stole sets of golf clubs.
Disturbance: 11:35 a.m., 12200 block of N.E. 116th St. The reporting party said he just came from the Time Out Tavern, where people reportedly beat him up. The police also received a call earlier from management at the tavern who said the reporting party was drinking, refused to leave the bar and punched a bouncer, so they kicked him out.
July 27
Suspicious event: 10:30 p.m., 50th block of Lakeshore Plaza. An anonymous caller reported that someone threatened his friend with a knife. He said the suspect and victim used to be friends. Police did not find a knife or suspect.
Reckless driving: 5:38 p.m., 12400 block of Totem Lake Blvd. N.E. The reporting party called police to report a reckless driver, who allegedly got in front of a car and then slammed on the brakes. The suspect, who was driving a charcoal Sion TC, continued to do this to other cars as well.
Vandalism: 11:06 p.m., 9400 block of N.E. 126th Place. Reporting party told police that three juvenile suspects had made death threats against his son. The suspects reportedly destroyed a flower stand in the backyard of the reporting party’s friend’s house.
July 25
Vandalism: Overnight, 147 Park Lane. Someone tagged the eastern side of the Champagne Taste building.
DUI: 10:41 p.m., 12400 block of 93rd Ave. N.E. William J. Leach, 50, of Kirkland was stopped after he was reported as driving under the influence. His blood alchohol content was .229. Leach was booked, cited and released.
July 24
Assault: 1 a.m., 10200 block of N.E. 62nd St. Kirkland resident Stephen J. Rohrig, 40, was arrested for fourth degree assault after he allegedly hit his girlfriend in the head with a pillow and kicked her in the stomach. Rohrig was booked into custody and cited.
Outstanding warrants: 5:27 p.m., 12300 block of N.E. 116th St. James A. Muscat, 23, of Renton, was arrested on his outstanding warrants.
July 22
Harassment: 9:36 a.m., 200 block of Fifth Avenue S. Employees at the Kirkland Church of the Nazerene called police to report that they received numerous letters and visit from the suspect. They reported the letters were difficult to read, but the suspect thinks the church is out to get her. She has shown up at the church repeatedly and most recently interrupted a church service. Church staff have tried to help but now want her trespassed from the property and said the suspect’s behavior is becoming increasingly harassing and scary.
Domestic violence: 10:10 p.m., 11600 block of 132nd Ave. N.E. Redmond resident Paul J. Wiedenbeck was arrested for a No Contact Order violation after he stopped his vehicle.
