Kirkland Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 19-year-old woman who died from a neck wound early Wednesday morning in Kirkland.
“We don’t know if it was self inflicted or not at this point,” said Mike Murray, operations lieutenant for the Kirkland Police Department.
The woman’s boyfriend called 911 at approximately 2:50 a.m. from the Hidden Firs apartment complex in the North Juanita neighborhood, police said. The apartment is located in the 13300 block of 100th Ave. N.E.
The woman was still alive when emergency personnel arrived, but died in the ambulance from her wound on the side of her neck, said Murray.
Detectives are still attempting to figure out how the woman sustained the wound and are waiting on a search warrant for the apartment. As of 9 a.m., the apartment was still cordoned off with yellow tape.
Police found possible evidence near two dumpsters behind the Juanita Albertson’s, which was also taped off. Police would not comment on what they found there.
Authorities also canvassed the apartment building on Wednesday morning, which included knocking on doors and looking for potential witnesses.
Police are questioning the woman’s boyfriend, who is considered a witness in the case.
“He is obviously distraught,” said Murray, noting the boyfriend is being cooperative.
The Washington State Patrol also responded to the scene to assist Kirkland police.
“We usually don’t get a lot of scenes like this here in Kirkland, fortunately,” Murray added.
