The following is a release from Washington House Democrats:
Rep. Joan McBride (D-Kirkland) has earned the Housing Hero Award from the Washington Low-Income Housing Alliance (WLIHA) based on her tireless work in the legislature on housing related issues.
“I’m humbled by the recognition of the Washington Low-Income Housing Alliance,” McBride said. “Housing and homelessness are issues I have great passion for, and I will continue to champion them in my work in Olympia on behalf of the 48th Legislative District.”
Washington Low-Income Housing Alliance’s mission is “to lead the movement to ensure that all our residents thrive in safe, healthy, affordable homes. We do this through advocacy, education, and organizing.”
“Representative Joan McBride, 48th LD, is the prime sponsor of HB 2971 which will eliminate a barrier to local jurisdictions enacting protections for renters when it goes into effect on June 9,” WLIHA representatives wrote. “Representative McBride also introduced several bills to create new local funding sources for affordable housing and is a strong champion.”
McBride, a proponent of mixed-use development, will continue to work with cities and other stakeholders to ensure Washington’s communities have the tools they need to adequately house their residents.
