Kirkland resident finishes as national finalist in debate tournament

Eastside Catholic senior Kyle Hendrix, of Kirkland, finished as a national finalist in the Senate during the LFG/NFL National Speech and Debate Tournament held June 10-15 in Indianapolis.

Eastside Catholic senior Kyle Hendrix, of Kirkland, finished as a national finalist in the Senate during the LFG/NFL National Speech and Debate Tournament held June 10-15 in Indianapolis. This ranks him in the top 24 in the country.

More than 250 entrants competed, all of whom qualified by placing at the top of their individual districts, making Kyle among the best out of thousands of competitors nationwide.

In the final round, Kyle debated on four topics: balancing the trade deficit with China, limiting campaign contributions to those within a district, granting amnesty to illegal immigrants, and abolishing the electoral college.

Kyle will attend Whitman College in the fall.
