Ryan L. Holdridge, a member of Kirkland’s Boy Scout Troop 607, recently earned the highest honor in Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scout award. Only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts attain this honor.
Ryan’s Eagle Scout Project was a restoration of a portion of Bridle Trails State Park in Bellevue. He led a team of scouts and adults in digging up and removing an invasive species of blackberries and replanting the area with native species. He also coordinated donations of all the plants and supplies for the team.
Ryan would like to thank all those who donated time, materials and hard work to complete this project, including Bridle Trails Red Apple Market, Bridle Trails Starbucks, and Storm Lake Growers in Monroe.
Ryan particularly appreciates the support given by ranger Mary and Diane at the Bridle Trails State Park and the friends, fellow scouts and members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stakes of Totem Lake and Juanita who put in many hours of labor towards his project.
Ryan is the son of Christina and Randy Erickson of Bellevue and Albert and Barbara Holdridge of Seattle. He is the grandson of Elizabeth (Nan) Cerini-Lopis of Issaquah and Gerald (Jerry) and Sharon Fairley of Anchorage, Ala.
Ryan started his scouting career in 1st grade at Pack 433 out of Puesta del Sol Elementary in Bellevue with his mother, Christina Erickson, serving as his den leader. He graduated to Boy Scout Troop 600 in Bellevue and was active for several years and then took some time off. Ryan rejoined scouting with Kirkland’s Troop 607 in the Sammamish Trails District to complete his Life and Eagle Scout ranks.
Ryan will be continuing to be involved with his Boy Scout Troop as a junior assistant scoutmaster until he turns 18 this spring and then as an assistant scoutmaster until he goes to college at Western Washington University in the fall.
Ryan’s hobbies include studying the history and culture of the Vikings, weight-lifting, and travel. He will be a staff member at the Boy Scout National Jamboree at Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia this summer.
Ryan’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday March 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Totem Lake at 13220 N.E. 132nd St., Kirkland.
