Public buildings with air conditioning will be available for Kirkland residents seeking relief from the extremely hot weather taking place over the next few days.

The National Weather Service has announced an excessive heat warning in effect until 11 p.m. this evening. Residents are encouraged to visit air conditioned places such as those listed below, a mall or movie theater.

Residents are also asked to check on relatives and neighbors, particularly those with health issues, and to never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even with the windows rolled down.

Public buildings in Kirkland include the following (please note these buildings will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day):
