Kirkland Rotary Community Service Chair Mary-Alyce Burleigh announced another successful year providing assistance to local families, students, and organizations. At the same time, Scott Rethke, Duck Dash Chair, announced plans for this year’s Duck Dash race, the major source of funding for Kirkland Rotary’s community-help activities.
Eastside residents and businesses again provided generous support for the big July 4th Duck Race. This support allowed Kirkland Rotary to continue its efforts in such areas as: scholarships, reading programs and shoes for John Muir Elementary students, the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club expansion, hot meals for Tent City 4 residents and more.
For 2010, the Rotary will continue its support for these types of causes, while being alert to new areas of need and acting quickly to help. This year’s race will again be held on July 4, with the top-finishing ducks winning prizes for their “adoptive families,” while providing the primary source of funds for Kirkland Rotary’s community efforts. “Adoptions” begin May 1 – watch for local Rotarians selling adoption papers throughout the area.
