Small business owner Santiago Ramos announced Thursday his campaign for 48th District state representative, Position Two. This is the position currently held by Rep. Deb Eddy, who announced this week she will retire from her seat.

“With devastating cuts to our public schools and higher education, we are making it harder to for the next generation to have the opportunities that were there when I was growing up. That needs to change.

“Our economy depends on a focus on excellence in our K-12 schools, a commitment to career and technical training and the end of budget cuts to our four year universities,” said Ramos, who lives with his family in Kirkland.

Santiago is focused on renewing our commitment to opportunity. He is concerned that the programs and educational opportunities he received will not be there for future generations.

Santiago moved here, as a child, with his family from Mexico in the early 90s. He went from knowing no english when he entered public school to graduating with a master’s degree in business from Western Washington University.

That’s why he is prioritizing:

Stopping the cuts to our four year universities.

Prioritizing our public schools

Reducing our high school dropout rate.

Reviewing and sunsetting tax breaks to ensure we are creating an economic climate that creates jobs.
