The following is a round-up of large capital projects currently taking place throughout the City of Kirkland:
NE 85th Street Corridor Improvements
Provide a series of coordinated street-scape facilities to minimize traffic delays; enable pedestrians, drivers, bicyclists, transit riders and others to have a safe and pleasant experience; and to develop a comprehensive transportation system to stimulate economic vitality and redevelopment.
Location: Northeast 85th Street between 132nd and 120th Avenue Northeast
Funding Partners: Sound Transit, City of Kirkland Capital Improvement Program
Timeline: Utility wires and poles are coming down along Northeast 85th Street from 120th Avenue Northeast to 128th Avenue Northeast. Puget Sound Energy is removing the wires and poles and is expected to be complete by Thursday, March 14. Traffic impacts along Northeast 85th Street will be minimal, as crews will try to use adjacent parking lots and side streets as much as possible. Lane closures will be restricted to off-peak hours between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. within Northeast 85th Street.

Watermain project
Upgrading existing watermains to increase efficiency and reduce future maintenance providing residents with high quality water flow.
Locations: 120th Avenue Northeast along 70th Street, and along Northeast 109th Street and Northeast 108th (between 104th Avenue Northeast and 106th Avenue Northeast)
Funding Partners: City of Kirkland Capital Improvement Program
Timeline: Project begin in March and is scheduled to be complete in July 2013.

SR 520 – Medina to SR 202 Eastside Transit and HOV Project
The Eastside Transit and HOV Project will provide transit service and mobility improvements along with environmental and community enhancements. The project will complete and improve the 8.8-mile HOV system from Evergreen Point Road to the SR 202 interchange.
The improved six-lane corridor will include two general-purpose lanes and one transit/HOV lane in each direction. As part of this project, the Washington State Department of Transportation will reconstruct SR-520 interchange at Lake Washington Boulevard, add a new HOV lane with improved transit access, realign Northeast Points Drive, install storm water facility and develop trail for bikes/pedestrians.
Timeline: Construction started May 2011 and is scheduled to be complete in 2014.

Kirkland Pump Station and Sewer Upgrade Project
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is upgrading its pump station at the corner of Third Street at Park Lane. These upgrades will increase capacity, ensure safe and reliable operations and meet current seismic, noise and odor control standards.
The upgrade also included the new pipeline along Kirkland Avenue from Third Street to Railroad Avenue (completed in 2012). Pipeline work in Third Street was also completed as part of Sound Transit’s Kirkland Transit Center Project. Park Lane from Third Street to Main Street is being used as a construction staging area and will remain closed during the project.
Location: The pump station is located at the northwest corner of Park Lane and Third Street.
Planning Partners: Sound Transit, King County and City of Kirkland Capital Improvement Program.
Timeline: In September 2011, King County’s utility contractor started work related to the pump station upgrade, which will last through spring, 2014.
