Adding sidewalks, increasing the number of children walking to school and making Kirkland more bicycle-friendly are some of the many goals proposed in the City of Kirkland’s Active Transportation Plan. Other goals include developing the “Cross Kirkland Trail” along the railroad right-of-way, creating a program that will track the rate of vehicle-pedestrian and vehicle-bicycle accidents, and removing vegetation and other obstructions along sidewalks that block pedestrian mobility. Public comment is being accepted on the Plan through Jan. 31 and will be accepted at the Jan.26, Houghton Community Council and the Jan. 28 Transportation Commission meetings. The draft Plan is available online at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us.
