Kirkland’s Deputy Mayor Marchione seeks re-election

Deputy Mayor Doreen Marchione announced today that she will run for a second term on the Kirkland City Council.

Deputy Mayor Doreen Marchione announced today that she will run for a second term on the Kirkland City Council.

“As Kirkland settles into being a city of 80,000, we need Doreen’s experience and leadership skills”, said Mary-Alyce Burleigh, former Kirkland mayor.

During her first term Marchione said that she wanted to bring civility back to the council, hire an exceptional city manager, and ensure that the annexation area received all the services promised without a decline in service to the current residents. All three of these goals were accomplished.

As a champion of the Cross Kirkland Corridor, Marchione supports prompt conversion to an interim bike and pedestrian trail.

“The corridor, along with a revitalized Totem Lake area, will knit together a cohesive city,” said Marchione.

Master planning of a permanent trail will take place this year, and she supports an open process in which all voices are heard regarding this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Marchione believes that our quality of life in Kirkland is what draws companies like Google to locate and expand in Kirkland. She is committed to Kirkland’s economic development with an emphasis on the Totem Lake area, restoring services to the neighborhoods, and ensuring that Kirkland’s quality of life continues to be enhanced through the implementation of the city’s parks and roads levies.

She is also excited about the update to Kirkland’s Comprehensive Plan, which will set the vision and plans for the next 20 years of development.

“It is important that we get the Comprehensive Plan Update right, which is why I will ensure that the process is open and inviting to all citizens. I want to make sure Kirkland remains the most livable, walkable and inclusive city in the state,” she added.

A kick-off campaign event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Kirkland Performance Center. Go to www.doreenmarchione.com to RSVP or learn more.
