The International Community School was recently ranked No. 32 in the country on the website The Best Schools (thebestschools.org).
According to the website, the rankings contained are based on many factors, but the high school must produce measurable academic outcomes across a large number of important academic indicators to be included.
In addition, a great public high school will have a good reputation with recruiting colleges and be highly ranked in measures of student satisfaction and faculty quality. All earned exceptionally high scores that place them well within the top one-half of one percent academically of all same-grade students.
Additionally, International Community School was recently awarded the Washington State Achievement Award for 2012 in both Extended Graduation Rate and Mathematics.
The achievement index rates all schools according to specific outcomes and indicators from 2010 to 2012. The five outcomes are student performance in statewide assessments in reading, writing, math and science tests, as well as the school’s extended graduation rate, which includes those students who took longer than four years to graduate.
All award-winning schools will be honored during an award ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.
International Community School is a choice school, open to all students from around the Lake Washington School District, which serves students in grades 7 through 12. The school focuses on six core content areas: international studies, humanities, world languages, the arts, science, and math. Entry is by lottery.
ICS is also ranked No. 34 in a list of the top U.S. high schools by U.S. News and World Report, the No. 1 high school in Washington for best overall academic performance by Business Week and is a US Department of Education Blue Ribbon School.
