Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s Gaming and Digital Media Program developed and displayed several virtual world environments at this year’s PAX exhibition at the Washington State Convention Center, wowing audiences and industry professionals alike.

“Our students are outstanding and have been quietly developing groundbreaking technologies here on the Kirkland campus. It’s nice to finally see the program get the recognition it deserves,” says Robby Gilbert, the lead faculty of the program at LWIT.

“We had people lining up for all four days to see our games and innovations, “ he added.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology, which is part of the state college system has built a competitive, cutting-edge program over the last several years in digital media as part of their Multimedia Design and Production and Bachelors of Technology in Applied Design programs.

This year, students began developing for a new VR technology called the Oculus Rift www.oculusvr.com and found themselves to be one of two schools worldwide to be displaying content for this yet-to-be-released technology which is expected to radically impact digital media and gaming over the next few years.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s students also have developed several mobile games and some of their own unique 3D projection technologies which caught the attention of Sony and Microsoft at the convention.

“I’m very proud of them,” says Gilbert of his students. “Kirkland and indeed the entire state should know that these students are on the leading-edge, developing digital technologies that are changing our industry.”
