The girls and boys Lake Washington High School varsity basketball teams will be playing in the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) 3A Regional Tournament on Feb. 25 at Bellevue College.
During the 3A District 2 Girls Basketball Tournament, also known as “SeaKing,” the Lady Kangs came in third place by defeating West Seattle by 69-41. Senior Elise Hani scored a career-high of 26 points, while guard Rosa Smith scored 7 three-pointers, totaling 23 points with 10 rebounds and 9 assists.
At the WIAA 3A Regional Tournament, the Lady Kangs will play Snohomish at 8:00 p.m. Both teams, regardless of who wins, will advance.
Since the Lady Kangs are seeded in #4, they automatically qualify for the WIAA 3A State Championship, which takes place from March 2-5 at the Tacoma Dome. If the Lady Kangs defeat Snohomish, they will play on March 3 in game #13 at 3:45 p.m. If Snohomish defeats the Lady Kangs in the upcoming game, the Lady Kangs will play on March 2 in game #11 at 7:15 p.m.
The Kangs came in fourth place at the 3A District 2 Boys Basketball Tournament and were defeated by Rainier Beach by a close 51-48. The boys’ team is seeded #6 in the upcoming regionals tournament, where they will play Kennewick at 6:00 p.m. at Bellevue College—the loser will be knocked out.
