The Lady Kangs are on a winning streak as they make their way to the WIAA 3A State Championship for girls’ basketball.
The Lake Washington High School Varsity basketball team defeated Snohomish by 68-62 at the WIAA 3A Regional Tournament on Feb. 25, making the Lady Kangs the WIAA District 2 Regional winners.
The game went into overtime, where guard Angie Helf scored three final quarter and overtime 3-point field goals, totaling 11 game points. Senior Elise Hani scored a career-high of 27 points, with 12 rebounds and 6 blocks.
Out of the total 19 team assists in the game, Rae Butler Wu contributed to 8. Rosa Smith, guard, scored 16 points and had 8 rebounds.
The state championship will begin on March 2, where Hermiston will play Kelso in game #9. The winner of game #9 will go on to play the Lady Kangs on March 3 at 3:45 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome.
For the boys’ basketball WIAA 3A State Championship, the Kangs lost the game to Kennewick by 61-54 and will not go on to play in state.
