The Lake Washington Ham Club will hold its free annual field day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Kirkland Juanita Park.

Field day is an annual amateur radio exercise every June that encourages emergency communication preparedness among amateur radio operators in the United States.

It is the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country. This exercise will often include demonstrations, experimenting with all kinds of radio communication, as well as contesting and most importantly involving young “HAMS” in these activities.

Field day’s focus at this year will be to show the public how amateur radio can support the community in case of a major disaster, and with the activities planned to further develop the club’s HAM radio skills to support this mission.

This year, the club has the following activities planned:

• Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) demonstrations

• Contest all bands

• Emergency preparedness

• Games

• Fun with friends

• Weird antennas

• Operate radios

• D Star

• Earthquake preparedness
