Everything went right at the Yakima Valley SunDome for the Kangs Dance Team on March 22.
After months of preparation and hard work, the girls brought out their very best and then some, competing alongside 34 other teams from around the state in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association dance drill 1A, 2A, and 3A state championships 2013.
The Kangs Dance Team received first place for their Military dance routine and third for their Pom competition.
Coach Lindsey Beck said, “We were overjoyed about our victory. We placed first and third against seven other teams, adding up to the school’s fourth State Championship Dance title.
“Emotions were running high and when they called LWHS the girls were thrilled beyond belief. All of their hard work had paid off.”
Beck said the girls have been working since July 2012, Mondays through Fridays for up to 16 hours a week.
Jennifer Imhof Karel, the president of the Booster Club that supports the team, added, “With great parents, coaching leadership and hard work our girls were able to work together to achieve amazing success this year! We have been thrilled with our dancers’ success all year, trophy or not. Having such a huge success at the state competition last week was the icing on the cake! Our daughters gave the most amazing performances of the year last week and it was so rewarding to know that everyone else agreed.”
The 2013-14 season tryouts for 8th-11th graders will be April 29 through May 3 at LWHS.
