Kids and their parents will have reasons to smile Feb. 8 when dental hygiene students at Lake Washington Institute of Technology help area dentists, assistants and hygienists during a free dental day for kids. For more than 20 years, LWIT has worked with area dental professionals to reduce cavities for children in the community. They provide exams, x-rays, fluoride varnish and sealants. Sealants are white coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to protect from cavities. They are non-toxic, application is painless, and they can protect a child’s teeth for six to eight years. Kids with cavities will be scheduled to have their teeth filled later at no cost.
Services are available by appointment, and will be offered 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children ages 5-13. The event will take place in the Dental Clinic at the LWIT Kirkland campus, 11605 132nd Ave. NE.
