As the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland gears up for its Pancake Breakfast to be held from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Peter Kirk Community Center, local youth musicians are tuning up for the occasion.
This is the first year this Kiwanis event has featured musicians as part of the fun. Lined up to perform are seven separate musical acts.
● 8-9 a.m.: First in line is the Kamiakin Middle School Jazz Ensemble numbering about 25 kids and directed by Ward Brannman. This group consists of 8th, 7th, 6th and even one 5th grade musician. The Jazz Ensemble is the school’s only “by-audition” group and is proud to participate in many community functions throughout the year.
● 9:30-10 a.m.: The Andante Choir from the Kirkland Children’s Music Studio is next up and is directed by Sue Heale and Cassi MacDougall. This not-for-profit show choir provides singing/dancing opportunities for kids ages kindergarten through 9th grade. The choir focuses on training and preparing students for careers in music or just singing for enjoyment. Their motto is, “music for life!”
● 10-10:30 a.m.: The Thoreau Elementary Choir, directed by Sharon Frank, consists of kids from 3rd-5th grade. The choir rehearses after school and enjoys being part of the Kirkland community, performing at senior centers and other venues. The group numbers 30-35 performers
● 10:45-11:15 a.m.: Sophia Duccini is an indie folk/singer-songwriter from the Seattle area. She recently signed with River Jones Music Label and will be releasing her second EP on May 24th.
● 11:15-11:45 a.m.: HeartCraves is a duo that consist of a sister and brother, Conley and Newton Kellogg. Their band is an alternative rock band from the Seattle area that has been playing music since they were very young children. They perform original songs as well as some covers.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
The Kirkland Kiwanis Club fully supports and is unified in the belief that fostering leadership and community in our youth is paramount to a child’s successful entry into adult life. KCK is thrilled to host the youth in our community as they explore their talent on stage at the annual Pancake Breakfast in support of KITH (Kirkland Interfaith Transitional Housing).
