Lt. Governor Habib to Visit Kirkland to Talk about Civil Discourse

Lt. Governor Cyrus Habib will visit Kirkland City Hall on Saturday, July 29 to give a free talk on civil discourse at 11 a.m. The community is welcome to join the forum where they will have a chance to ask questions of the Lt. Governor and engage in discussion with community members and city council members.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our community,” said Mayor Amy Walen. “We are excited to welcome the Lt. Governor to discuss ways to bridge differences of opinion and find common ground so we can work to keep Kirkland a great place to live, work and play.”

Habib’s talk will be followed by a community discussion exploring ways Kirkland residents can build understanding and offer ideas on how Kirkland can be a more welcoming and inclusive community.

Habib was elected as Washington’s 16th Lt. Governor in 2016. Prior to that, Habib served first as a representative of the state’s 48th Legislative District, representing parts of Kirkland, and then as the senator for the same. For more information on Habib, please visit his official website.

This talk is part of the City of Kirkland’s “City Hall for All” event. Occurring at City Hall, 123 5th Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., “City Hall for All” is an opportunity for residents to peek inside the city’s newly renovated City Hall, enjoy food from around the world and learn about the many ways the city can serve residents.

For this Saturday only, passport services will be available during the four hours of the event. Members of the Inclusion Network, a group of local leaders who focus on events and opportunities to bring the diverse population of Kirkland together in unity, will also be on-hand to meet and introduce themselves to the community.

The event will include facilitated discussions, drop-in activities and tours of the city’s intelligent traffic system, the state-of-the-art television studio and the Emergency Operations Center.
