A position on the Lake Washington School District Board of Directors will open in November 2017, and the district is reaching out with the hope of finding qualified applicants to replace outgoing Nancy Bernard.
A member of the board since 1997 and resident of Kirkland, Bernard announced she would not run for another term once the current term is up. Bernard has served as the president, vice president and legislative representative, and served four years on the Washington State School Directors’ Association Legislative Committee.
Bernard will lead an information meeting from 7-8 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the LWSD Resource Center in Redmond for anyone interested in learning more about serving on the board and the process for running. Applicants must live in Director District Three, which includes much of Kirkland east of I-405 and the westernmost parts of Redmond, but the position represents the district as a whole.
Candidates for school board file with King County Elections and there is no filing fee. Candidate filing for the August primary may be submitted by mail between May 1 and 19. Online filing takes place between May 15 and 19. More information is available on the King County Elections website Running for Office page.
