The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Feb. 28 and March 6, the Kirkland Police Department reported 430 traffic violations, seven DUIs, 20 school zone traffic violations, five animal calls, 31 alarm calls, 10 noise complaints, four juvenile crimes, eight calls of disturbance, 13 calls for civil disturbance, 13 thefts, seven car prowls, five car thefts, 35 traffic accidents, seven reported burglaries, 11 domestic violence calls, six calls for harassment, six reports of illegal drugs, three alleged assaults, 11 acts of fraud, 10 malicious mischief reports, one rape, two sex offenses, one vice call and three calls for suicide. At least 38 people were arrested.
March 2
Cyber bullying: 3:04 p.m., 14400 block of 83rd Ave. NE. A person called police to report a student’s Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat account were hacked and had multiple messages sent out to other students in school. The parents haven’t filed a report, but have an idea of who the suspect is. Students have identified a possible suspect but were afraid to come forward for fear of being bullied.
March 1
Liquor violation: 7000 block of 130th Ave. NE. An 18-year-old man was arrested for consuming alcohol and possessing nearly two liters of clear rum. His preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .138 percent.
Warrant: 12 a.m., 13300 block of NE 129th St. A 44-year-old woman was arrested on a misdemeanor theft warrant.
Domestic violence: 2:30 p.m., 500 block of 16th Ave. W. A 36-year-old man was arrested for punching his 32-year-old male roommate in the ear. The man had come home drunk and became upset when his roommate tried to kick him out because he broke his rules of the house regarding drinking. The suspect became distraught, stabbed his air mattress with a kitchen knife then allegedly assaulted his roommate.
Domestic violence: 10:30 a.m., 11100 block of 109th Place NE. A 43-year-old man was arrested for forcing his 35-year-old girlfriend of five years to the ground by her head, causing injury to her ear. There were four witnesses — a 2-year-old, 11-year-old, 18-year-old and a 61-year-old.
Feb. 28
Warrant: 4:18 p.m., 12700 block of NE 124th St. A 27-year-old man was taken into custody on his Mountlake Terrace warrant. Police found him after his wallet was turned into the department as found property.
Reckless driving: 5:39 p.m., Sixth Street and Kirkland Way. A 47-year-old man was arrested after multiple witnesses observed him driving up and down sidewalks, striking pedestrians and driving into oncoming lanes of traffic. The man admitted that he allowed his 5-year-old son to sit on his lap and steer his Toyota Sequoia SUV through downtown during rush hour.
Domestic violence: 8:34 p.m., 13100 block of 111th Place NE. A 34-year-old woman was arrested as the primary aggressor in a fight between a 37-year-old woman, a 39-year-old woman and herself. She was hostile and refused commands, which eventually led to police deploying a Taser. An investigation revealed the suspect was in a relationship with the 37-year-old woman and violated a temporary no-contact order by biting her breast.
Property found: 12421 block of Totem Lake Boulevard NE. A 61-year-old woman reported a stolen 1995 red Subaru Legacy in the Rite Aid parking lot. Rite Aid staff believed the vehicle was left in the parking lot on Feb. 25. The registered owner is a 23-year-old man from Seattle.
Theft: 10:20 p.m., 4500 block of Lake Washington Boulevard NE. A 50-year-old man reported his work laptop was stolen in the “job shack.” The man said he saw a strange white man between the age of 30-36, 160 pounds at around 5-feet, 9-inches tall hanging around earlier that day. He said he had a conversation with him and suspects he stole the laptop. The suspect has short hair and was wearing a gray shirt with jeans.
