The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Jan. 30 – Feb. 5, there were 362 traffic incidents, 21 traffic accidents, seven DUIs, 34 general traffic incidents, 27 alarm calls, 13 abandoned vehicles, four burglaries, 10 incidents of fraud, 10 civil incidents, eight cases of harassment, 16 thefts, 13 vehicle prowls, two vehicle thefts, seven warrants served, 15 noise complaints, three animal calls, 17 incidents of domestic violence, six incidents of malicious mischief, one rape, homicide, 15 disturbances, one sex offense, five assaults, four hit and runs and 35 incidents involving at least one arrest.
Feb. 4
Warrant: 5:40 a.m., 10800 block of 101st Ave NE. A 24-year-old man was arrested after escaping custody on a felony warrant. He was seen “in the shadows” of a person’s yard and apprehended by police. In addition to his felony warrant, he was charged through investigation for providing false statements to a public official.
Feb. 3
Theft: 7:51 p.m., 12500 block of 120th Ave NE. A 41-year-old man attempted to steal pepper spray from Big 5 and was detained outside the store by officers.
Bus conduct: 7:24 p.m., Ne 124th St and 1113th Ave Ne. A 35-year-old man got drunk and had an open container in a bus on Route 255. He was arrested and released to EvergreenHealth due to his intoxication and was charged through investigation. At the time, he was also being investigated by the King County Transit Police for an unwanted touching incident that had occurred in Seattle, but when provided his information they did not want to pursue it further.
Feb. 2
Bus conduct: 9:34 a.m., 12200 block of 124th Ave NE. A 36-year-old man was drinking a large can of Steel Reserve at a bus stop. When contacted by police, he told them he was sent home by his boss because he was drunk. Police later found he was on his third beer and did not have any formal identification. He was arrested for unlawful transit conduct, fingerprinted and then released.
Protection order violation: 11:33 a.m., 10700 block of NE 37th Ct. A 48-year-old man was arrested for violating a no-contact order with 50-year-old woman after he was seen at their shared residence.
Assault: 10:10 p.m., 400 block of 4th Ave S. A 35-year-old woman reported her 39-year-old husband had assaulted her. While on the phone with dispatch, the husband could be heard threatening to break the door down. The wife did not require medical attention. The husband was arrested for domestic violence.
Feb. 1
Protection order violation: 6:15 p.m., 12500 block of 116th Ave NE. An employee at Value Village reported a dispute between a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man. Police discovered the woman was in violation of a protection order she had filed against the man. She was arrested on the order violation and booked into the Kirkland Jail.
Assault: 8:30 p.m., 11500 block of Juanita Dr NE. A 45-year-old man slapped a 48-year-old woman and then grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall. He was arrested for fourth degree assault.
Malicious mischief: 1:51 p.m., 8900 block of NE 141st St. A 21-year-old man punched his 22-year-old friend in the face while being chauffeured home from the downtown bars. When they got back to the friend’s place, the suspect punched the front door, breaking the glass pane. He fled before police arrived and although the friend did not want to pursue charges his roommate did, and the suspect was cited through investigation for malicious mischief.
Jan. 31
Disorderly conduct: 12:40 a.m., a 34-year-old man and a 43-year-old man were both arrested for disorderly conduct after they caused as disturbance inside Tony’s Sports Bar. The 43-year-old man was also charged for malicious mischief after damaging private property inside the men’s restroom.
Jan. 30
Assault: 11 p.m., 10600 block of NE 107th Pl. A 46-year-old woman reported her 48-year-old boyfriend of four years after he assaulted her early in the morning while drunk after he felt she was disrespecting him. The woman had significant injuries including a bump on her head, bruising and swelling to her face, arms and neck. The man was arrested for fourth degree assault and malicious mischief for damage to private property.
Jan. 29
Protection order: 12:01 a.m., 12000 block of NE 62nd St. A 33-year-old woman reported her 24-year-old husband, who lives in North Carolina, had been contacting her through email and Facebook in violation of a protection order in which he was the respondent. Officers confirmed the protection order and cited the husband through investigation.
