The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Oct. 18-24, the Kirkland Police Department reported 379 traffic violations, nine DUIs, 10 school zone traffic violations, seven animal calls, 34 alarm calls, 17 noise complaints, three juvenile crimes, nine calls of disturbance, 15 thefts, nine car prowls, three car thefts, 29 traffic accidents, 13 calls of civil disturbance, eight reported burglaries, six domestic violence calls, six calls for harassment, four reports of illegal drugs, three alleged assaults, seven acts of fraud, four malicious mischief reports and six suicide calls. At least 37 people were arrested.
Oct. 24
Theft: 7:28 p.m., 6600 block of 132nd Ave. NE. A 24-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting a bottle of Coca-Cola and four jalapeño peppers from a Red Apple deli.
False reporting: 7:35 p.m., 9600 block of NE 121st Lane. A 51-year-old man called 911 to falsely report he killed someone in an attempt to get a faster police response because he was upset with police’s response time. He did not kill anyone and was arrested for false reporting.
Domestic violence: 12:01 a.m., 12600 block of 124th St. A 22-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old woman. The man and woman were both intoxicated and both had bite mark injuries. The suspect said the marks were wanted but the woman said hers weren’t and that the man was the primary aggressor.
Trespass: 11:15 a.m., 11200 block of NE 68th St. A 52-year-old man was arrested after he violated a year-long no-trespass order when he went into a 45-year-old woman’s office and handed her a note professing his love for her. The woman told police she is fearful and doesn’t know what he is capable of. Police seized the note as evidence.
Disturbance: 1:32 p.m., 12400 block of NE 145th St. A 29-year-old man was arrested on three city warrants totaling $36,100 after several witnesses observed the suspect display a “handgun” in his waistband to three others. The suspect admitted the disturbance was a drug deal gone bad and that the weapon was a flare gun painted black.
Oct. 22
Assault: 7:36 a.m., 12800 block of NE 85th St. A 42-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 39-year-old man at Pub 85 on Oct. 16, causing injuries that required 19 stitches around the top and bottom of the victim’s eye. Police seized security video footage of the assault as evidence.
