The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2, there were 382 traffic incidents, 25 traffic accidents, three DUIs, 28 general traffic incidents, 36 alarm calls, 16 abandoned vehicles, 11 burglaries, 12 incidents of fraud, 16 civil incidents, two cases of harassment, 17 thefts, 32 vehicle prowls, three vehicle thefts, 12 warrants served, 16 noise complaints, four animal calls, 10 incidents of domestic violence, eight incidents of malicious mischief, 15 disturbances, one sex offense and 36 incidents involving at least one arrest.
Sept. 26
Theft: 5 p.m., 14100 block of 82nd PL NE. A 25-year-old man was arrested after he was caught with stolen merchandise. The victim reported the loss to the police and witnesses led them to the suspect, who confessed to the theft. He was cited and released.
Sept. 27
Theft: 10 a.m., 300 block of Parkplace Ctr. A 30-year-old man was arrested for theft after he stole an antique from a store. Because the item was of low value and he had a history of mental illness, he was offered the opportunity to participate in the King County Mobil Crisis Unit housing program and avoid being charged. He declined, telling police he had tried to complete the program before and failed.
Sept. 28
Disorderly conduct: 1:51 a.m., 100 block of Lake St. A 21-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were arrested after the woman got into an argument with her 21-year-old sister. When bystanders attempted to intervene, the man tried to fight them and eventually threatened to get his gun and shoot them. The man was arrested for disorderly conduct and the woman was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
Assault: 1:42 p.m., 100 block of 126th Way NE. A 49-year-old man was arrested after he got into a fight with his ex-wife while at their residence in front of their 10-year-old son. During the fight the man punched his wife in her arm and stabbed her in the middle of her upper back with a small pen-like object. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Sept. 29
Protection order: 10:56 a.m., 12200 block of 120th Ave NE. A 20-year-old man was arrested after he was seen by Kirkland police getting into a car with his 54-year-old mother after leaving court. She is the protected party in a no-contact order between the two.
Oct. 1
Assault: 12 p.m., 12600 block of NE 124th St. A 24-year-old man was arrested after getting into an argument with his 21-year-old girlfriend over cleaning and money. He slammed her head against the wall and later grabbed the back of her neck, forcing her to the ground. The man left prior to the police arriving, but he was found in the area and arrested.
Assault: 5:18 p.m., 11600 block of NE 74th St. A 27-year-old woman was arrested after she grabbed her 74-year-old stepfather and shoved him down, scratching his face, neck and back. A neighbor heard him yelling for help. The woman, who has schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, was taken on an involuntary commitment after making suicidal threats.
Oct. 2
Theft: 6 p.m., 11600 block of 98th Ave NE. A 22-year-old woman was arrested after she stole a laptop from a 21-year-old man because he owed her five dollars. When he confronted her about it she slammed the laptop on the ground, destroying it.
