Mother’s Day Half Marathon in Kirkland will impact traffic

Commuters should expect traffic delays due to the Mother’s Day Half Marathon and 5K event to be held on May 11 in Kirkland.

Northeast Juanita Drive between 93rd Avenue Northeast and 98th Avenue Northeast, and 97th Avenue Northeast between Northeast Juanita Drive and Northeast 120th Street will be closed from 6 a.m. until 12 p.m. Route impacts will include lane closures and/or delays from approximately 7 a.m. until the final athlete finishes at 11 a.m. For course information, go to www.kirklandwa.gov/specialevents.

The 5k Run/Walk starts at Juanita Beach Park, heads east on Northeast Juanita Drive, south on 98th Avenue Northeast, continues south on Market Street, turns south onto 6th Street West, north on 16th Avenue West, south on 8th Street West, north on 10th Street West, south on 18th Avenue West, north on 9th Street West, north on 20th Avenue West, continues north through Juanita Bay Park/Old Market Street Trail, north on 98th Avenue Northeas, west on Northeast Juanita Drive, finishing back at Juanita Beach Park.

The Half Marathon starts at Juanita Beach Park, heads north on 97th Avenue Northeast, continues north onto Northeast 120th Place, north on 100th Avenue Northeast, east on Northeast 124th Street, south on 103rd Avenue Northeast, continues south on 104th Avenue Northeast, east on Northeast 116th Street, south on 108th Avenue Northeast, east on Northeast 112th Street, south on 116th Avenue Northeast, continue west on Northeast 106th Street/Forbes Creek Drive, south on Market Street, east on 7th Avenue, south on 6th Street, continue south on 108th Avenue Northeast, north on Northeast 38th Place, north on Lake Washington Boulevard, west on Kirkland Avenue, north on Lakeshore Plaza Drive, north on Market Street, west on Waverly Way, north on 6th Street West, north on Market Street, north on 20th Avenue West, continues north through Juanita Bay Park/Old Market Street Trail, north on 98th Avenue Northeast, west on Northeast Juanita Drive, finishing back at Juanita Beach Park.

The Kirkland Half Marathon hosts 1,700 athletes during the event which includes a Kids Dash, 5K run/walk and Half Marathon run/walk.  Event website information is posted at www.explorekirkland.com.
