National History Day results for LWSD students

Students from Evergreen Junior High (EJH), International Community School (ICS), Rose Hill Junior High (RHJH), Redmond Junior High (RJH) and Redmond High School (RHS) participated in the North Puget Sound Regional History Day competition on March 21 and will advance to the state competition held May 5 at Bellevue College.

Students from Evergreen Junior High (EJH), International Community School (ICS), Rose Hill Junior High (RHJH), Redmond Junior High (RJH) and Redmond High School (RHS) participated in the North Puget Sound Regional History Day competition on March 21 and will advance to the state competition held May 5 at Bellevue College.

Students competed at either the junior (grades 6-8) or senior (grades 9-12) level in the following categories: exhibits, papers, multi-media documentaries, original performances and websites. This year’s theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.”

Junior Group Documentary:

• First Place: Mahi Elango, Sophia Tevosyan, Adarsh Karnati and Anand Nambakam (RJH) – “Perestroika: Destruction through Reconstruction.”

• Second place: Richard Zhang (RJH) – “A Change in the Storm: Reform and Revolution in the Chinese Civil War.”

• First place: Kate Belokrylova (ICS) – “An Educated Step: Napoleonic Reform of Schools in Post-revolutionary France.”

• Third place: Steven Li (ICS) – “Seattle General Strike 1919: Labor Reform Paralyzes the Emerald City.”

• Third place: Laura Liao (ICS) – “Reforming America’s Melting Pot: The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.”

In addition, Steven Li (ICS) won the Shoreline Historical Museum Local History Award.

• Third place: Julian Pradeep (RJH) – “The Women’s Christian Temperance Movement and Alcohol in America: Submersing an Inebriated Past.”

• First place: Tara Balakrishnan, Maya Balakrishnan, Lila Balakrishnan and Samhita Karnati (RHS) – “The Green Revolution.”

• Second place: Hana Keller and Lynsey Liu (RJH) – “Revolution in Music: Baroque to Classical.”

• Third place: Maxwell Schrempp, Jessica Jin, Ceri Riley and Nathan Maris (ICS) – “The NCCC Fights for Washington’s Mountains: An Environmental Revolution.”
