The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers who use northbound Interstate 405 through Kirkland and Bothell should prepare for major delays and plan on using alternate routes tonight, Aug. 28, through Monday morning, Aug. 31.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will reduce northbound I-405 to one lane approaching State Route 522 and close several ramps in the area. The closures are needed to open new braided ramps, which are a major step toward completing the I-405 – NE 6th to I-5 Widening and Express Toll Lanes project.

Closure information

To safely and efficiently open the new northbound I-405 braided ramps, crews will close the following lanes and ramps from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

• Northbound I-405 between NE 124th Street and SR 522 will be reduced to one lane
• The northbound I-405 off-ramp to NE 160th Street
• The NE 160th Street on-ramp to northbound I-405
• The northbound I-405 ramps to eastbound and westbound SR 522

Additional weekend lane and ramp closures

In addition, there will be extensive overnight northbound I-405 lane and ramp closures between State Route 520 in Bellevue and Northeast 85th Street in Kirkland from Saturday evening through Monday morning. These closures are needed to complete striping work.

Lane closures:

• Saturday, Aug. 29, to the morning of Sunday, Aug. 30

o   Up to four lanes of northbound I-405 between SR 520 and Northeast 70th Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to noon.

• Sunday, Aug. 30, to the morning of Monday, Aug. 31

o   Up to four lanes of northbound I-405 between Northeast 85th Street and Northeast 116th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m.

Ramp closures:

• Saturday, Aug. 29, to the morning of Sunday, Aug. 30

o   The Northeast 70th Street on-ramp to northbound I-405 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

o   The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 70th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m.

o   The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 85th Street will be closed from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m.

• Sunday, Aug. 30, to the morning of Monday, Aug. 31

o   The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 70th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

o   The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 70th Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

o   The northbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast 85th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

o   The Northeast 85th Street to northbound I-405 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

This work is weather dependent and is subject to change. Signed detour routes will be displayed for all ramp closures. Kirkland and Bothell are open for business throughout the closure.
