Jason Wu, a ninth grader at Northshore Junior High, spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia. Wu was one of 19 students who served as Senate pages for the third week of the 2016 legislative session. He was sponsored by Sen. Andy Hill who represents Redmond, Duvall, Kirkland, Sammamish and Woodinville in the Washington State Senate.

The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

“I think you should know about politics and understand how it all works,” Wu said.

He plans on getting an engineering degree from the University of Washington.

Wu enjoys playing videogames, reading, and gardening when the weather permits.

Wu, 15, is the son of Ronald and Julie Wu of Woodinville.
