Overnight patrols began last week at the Peter Kirk Municipal Parking Garage located under the Kirkland Library. The City has contracted with Securitas to provide security patrols seven days a week from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The patrols will be conducted by trained employees wearing marked clothing and driving marked vehicles. The City and the Kirkland Police Department will receive daily reports in order to monitor any suspicious activity.
The new safety efforts come in response to downtown businesses concerns for the safety of their customers. Prior to contracting with Securitas, the City also painted the garage interior and increased lighting in and around the structure. The City will continue to monitor the safety of the garage and will take additional measures as needed.
