183 in two weekends

Stepped-up patrols by area law enforcement agencies — including the Kirkland Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office — to curb teenage drinking during graduation season netted 183 arrests over the program’s first two weekends.

Over the weekend of June 13-14, 40 people were arrested on a variety of charges. The majority of the arrests were for Minor in Possession of Alcohol (28), with other arrests for DUI (1), felony drug possession (2), obstructing police officers (2), furnishing alcohol to minors (1) and a reckless driving arrest.

In addition, three people were arrested for outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants and two store clerks were arrested for selling to underage customers.

The arrests followed the 143 the multi-jurisdictional effort tallied over the first weekend of “Party Patrols” June 6-7.

Specific numbers for Kirkland weren’t available.

The stated goal of the patrols was to curtail teenage drinking and driving.
