Between Wednesday, Jan. 14 and Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Kirkland Police Department reported 452 traffic violations (10 DUIs), 22 car accidents, 17 alarm calls, 16 thefts, 14 assaults (nine domestic violence), 14 vehicle prowls and 12 acts of fraud. At least 46 people were arrested.
Jan. 15
Vehicle theft: 4:45 a.m., 12200 block of 108th Ct. N.E. A 26-year-old female resident said her 1996 Volkswagen Passat was stolen overnight. Investigators reported no suspect or further leads in the case.
Weapons: 12:10 p.m., 9900 block of N.E. 132nd Street. Stopping a 1990 Honda Accord for expired tags, police noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and arrested the 26-year-old motorist. A search of the vehicle produced a small amount of marijuana, a pipe and a pizza box containing a loaded handgun. He was arrested for possession and weapons permit violations.
Jan. 16
Fraud: 5 p.m., 11000 block of N.E. 68th Street. A rent check from a 20-year-old resident was allegedly stolen from a Condo rental drop box and fraudulently cashed by a third party. Police identified a suspect in the forgery case, which remains under investigation.
Jan. 17
Robbery: 8:14 p.m., 12000 block of 124th Ave. N.E. A retail business employee said two 25-year-old men allegedly demanded money from the register and gestured to handguns tucked in their waistbands. They were last seen running eastbound.
Jan. 18
Dumping: 3:19 p.m., 300 block of Fourth Avenue. A resident complained their neighbor was dumping branches and debris in their yard, along with a restraining order from a previous incident. The neighbor alleged the resident was responsible for trimming a hedge that borders their property.
Police facilitated an exchange of information and the removal of yard waste from the resident’s lawn.
Jan. 19
Vehicle prowl: 10:00 p.m., 11000 block of N.E. 124th Street. An unknown suspect entered two vehicles, removing their belongings. The suspect entered an unlocked 1996 Suzuki and smashed the windows of a Ford Mustang, taking several bags containing personal property. No further leads are reported.
Animal: 4:15 p.m., 108th Ave. N.E./N.E. 62nd St. An aggressive off-leash chocolate Labrador mix allegedly chased a woman and her small child. The dog was reportedly limping and thought to be injured.
Jan. 20
Fire: 8:31 a.m., 7000 S. I-405. Firefighters responded to a car fire on the southbound lanes of Interstate 405, just south of the N.E. 70th St. exit.
