A power outage at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWIT) in Kirkland on Monday morning has delayed the start of classes until 10 a.m.
The power outage occurred at 7 a.m. and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) workers have already restored the power.
“We want to let people know that they can come on campus but since we have already sent out the notices, we will not start classes until 10 a.m.,” said LWIT spokesperson Jamie Holter.
The outage could not have come at a more inopportune time, as Monday marks the start of the summer quarter for LWIT students.
The outage occurred because three primary fuses blew at the college, said Holter. This is the second power outage at the college in eight months.
“Is it that it is an old building? Was there a surge on power grid? It has been hot, so it might be over taxed? They don’t really know yet,” said Holter.
PSE officials are not sure if the two incidents are linked, but Holter said they don’t think it is indicative of a larger problem.
