Celebrate Kirkland, in partnership with the Kirkland Downtown Association, has announced the inclusion of a $1,000 first place cash prize for the best parade entry in the annual Lee Johnson Auto Family 4th of July Parade. Included in the contest is a $500 cash prize for the second place entry and all entries will be competing to receive high scores from an independent panel of judges.

The parade theme for the year is “It’s a Small World”, drawing inspiration from Walt Disney and the fact that it has been 50 years since the exhibit opened in Disneyland.

Parade entries will be judged on a scale of one to five on how well they meet the criteria in the categories of parade theme, presentation and appearance, showmanship, and creativity. The entry, whether it is a float or otherwise, with the best scores will be announced and given their prize at the picnic following the parade, which is held at Marina Park in Kirkland, and includes food trucks, music and more.

The entries can be anything from a float to a marching band, and all entries are encouraged to participate by signing up on the Celebrate Kirkland website (www.celebratekirkland.org). The entry fee for the parade is $50 for a non-profit (501c) and $100 for political candidates, for-profit organizations, and all others. Donations are happily accepted to help create the best experience possible, but are not required for entry into the parade. All entries will be notified of their acceptance and parade route placement by noon on July 3.
