This past weekend, the speech and debate team from Providence Classical Christian School competed in a tournament hosted by Cedar Park Christian School along with 16 other area schools.

The Providence high school debate team performed well. The pair of Daniel Jekel and Wesley Su ended up finishing first place in Public Forum debate. In addition to this top debate finish, several of the students also garnered top finishes in speech events.

One pair of debaters, Nate Smidt and Landon Butaud, had some hard luck with three losses in competition against the pairs that would end up the top three at the tournament. Another pair, Abbey Langub and Olivia Hatcher, finished with a 4-2 record in the Novice Division, with their losses again coming against teams that finished in the top tier of their division.

The Providence eighth grade debate class competed along with the high school teams to get their feet wet in this valuable activity. The eighth graders gained valuable experience putting into practice the skills they are gaining in the classroom.
