Public hearing on transfer of property from county to city

The Metropolitan King County Council will hold a public hearing on May 9 to take testimony on a proposed ordinance 2011-0179, transferring parks, roads and greenbelt-related properties from King County to the City of Kirkland due to annexation. The public hearing will be held before the full council at 1:30 p.m. May 9 at the King County Courthouse, room 1001.

An agreement between the city and county was reached to make the transfer as part of the county’s annexation initiative. The transfer agreement provides for King County to transfer ownership of the facilities upon the effective date of the annexation, which is scheduled for June 1.

Following the transfer, the city shall assume ownership and full and complete responsibility for the operation, maintenance, repairs, and any subsequent improvements to the parks and roads related properties. Copies of the proposed ordinance are available upon request by calling 206-296-1020. The ordinance is available online at www.kingcounty.gov.
