Quick action by some high school kids may have saved a life Tuesday afternoon at Settler’s Landing Park in Kirkland.
Bystanders noticed a male on a paddleboard heading south along the shore at 4 p.m. today, according to Kirkland Fire Department. A short time later, they noticed the male in the water floating near the paddleboard about 50 yards off of the private dock.
Suspecting the man was in trouble, three high school-age youth swam to the man and brought him to the private side of the dock by the park, called 911 and initiated CPR until the Kirkland Fire Department arrived.
King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and Bellevue Medic 1 also responded to the incident. Kirkland Aid Unit 22 arrived within four minutes of the call.
The victim regained a pulse as he was transported to the hospital.
The victim is only being identified as a 54-year-old male.
