Curbside recyclables will no longer be accepted at the King County Houghton Transfer Station beginning Feb. 1. Recyclables collection will also be eliminated at the Renton, Shoreline, Enumclaw, and Cedar Fall transfer stations.
Eliminating recyclables collection service at King County transfer stations will save solid waste rate payers $400,000 each year. The collection of recyclables at transfer stations is a duplication of a service that is available to 99 percent of King County residents with their curbside garbage service.
Curbside recycling is provided at no extra cost with garbage service to all Kirkland residents. Residents who generate more recyclables than can fit in their carts can request a larger recycling cart from Waste Management or set out extra recyclables at no extra cost. To request a larger recycling cart, contact Waste Management Customer Service at (800) 592-9995 or visit www.wmnorthwest.com/kirkland.
