Red Cross locates disaster-relief center in city

Representatives of the American Red Cross and the City of Kirkland will officially dedicate King County’s sixth Disaster Relief Supply Center (DRSC) today. DRSCs contain emergency supplies that are pre-positioned for use in future disasters and can be transported to emergency shelters. The cots, blankets, hygiene kits, etc., will provide short term emergency shelter for as many as 750 people.

Representatives of the American Red Cross and the City of Kirkland will officially dedicate King County’s sixth Disaster Relief Supply Center (DRSC) today. DRSCs contain emergency supplies that are pre-positioned for use in future disasters and can be transported to emergency shelters. The cots, blankets, hygiene kits, etc., will provide short term emergency shelter for as many as 750 people.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting will take place at 10 a.m. at the City Church, located at 9051 132nd Ave N.E. in Kirkland.

“This Disaster Relief Supply Center will be a critical component in our disaster response and readiness planning for the Puget Sound region” said Dr. Larry Petry, CEO for the American Red Cross Serving King & Kitsap Counties. “It will certainly help this community be better prepared and safer in the future.”

The Disaster Relief Supply Center was built with grant money from The Seattle Foundation. In the event of a disaster, all supplies from the center are free.
